I had the pleasure of sharing a musical night and stage with Eve's Attic (Houghton, MI) and Small Houses (Pinckney, MI) last Friday night in Hancock, MI!
The show was located at the Orpheum Theater, a hide-away room in back of a pizza joint. I've never had an opportunity to play at such a unique and lovely venue. Used previously as a cinema, the feel of the room definitely had me painted in smiles. Walking towards the stage, I felt like I was walking into another era. There were reused, wooden tables of every cut and style arranged for seating. The table tops were covered in satin table runners and in the back of the room was a balcony for those who wanted to look down upon the stage.
I loved every minute of the experience. Although it was incredibly humbling playing with such talented musicians, I definitely had a new form of confidence that I hadn't felt before or at previous gigs. I felt like my 40's and 50's inspired music finally found a home in such a retro venue and I found myself playing the ukulele with some shake to my hips! I can only hope to be lucky enough to play there again.
