Hi. Come to the Ramada tonight. I'm going to talk to you through a microphone, casually sing you a song or two, talk to you through a microphone again. You should come be casual with me. I think Matt Bullock is accompanying me, too. He's really good at the bass and the little tike piano bells. He also wears cool glasses. I wear cool boots. What's your favorite color? think about your answer and let me know TONIGHT 9 PM @ THE RAMADA.

More RUM-UH-DUH
See you this Thursday, Dec. 9, @ 9 PM for some tunez at The Ramada!
Sparrow Tree
Mary Mugford (perhaps solo, perhaps with Matt Bullock. You'll have to go and see!)
Troy Graham
Sam Graves
It's been a while since I've updated! Winter is finally here, as of Saturday. I cannot believe we made it until December without any snow! It feels like the Holiday Season now, and I'm excited.
There's a show scheduled in Houghton, MI for January!! I will update you on the details soon.
In the mean time, I will leave you with lyrics to my newest ukulele song "When We Turn". enjoy and stay tuned!
When We Turn
Songs no longer needed
shift out of tune.
the sun hides and leaves me the moon.
I'll return, too, real soon:
I'll come back to marry you.
We all turn different shades of blue but
when we turn,
turn to me and
I can turn to you.
My home, my home is full
of things:
Do I own them
or do they own me?
When I lay my head down at night,
I want clear dreams.
'I want, i want, i want':
I just want what I need.
We all turn different shades of blue but
When we turn, turn to me and
I can turn to you.

FREE MUSIC from I LOVE CATS! and DDSG ending their cd release tour!
It's bright out! Summer rules.
Update: My next scheduled music time is August 24th on 3rd Street, 4:oo-7:oo pm! I'll let you know what business I will be outside of, shoving music notes in your head.
The show on 3rd on the 15th was really fun! I got a busking type of feeling--and it was free and filled my insides up with good feelings. The weather couldn't have been any more perfect: blue skied, sunny, everyone enjoying the weather and smiling. I think for Aug. 24th, I will try and work out a mic and amp situation. With all of the amazing musicians lining 3rd, my voice was straining to make a peep! You live and learn. It was great.
I played a music workshop called "My Gen-gen-generation!" at Hiawatha Music Festival and it went swimmingly. I shared the stage (or lawn :) with Troy Graham, Cousin Curtis and Sam Graves. I played "Shine With Me", "Your Favorite Robot" and "Your Favorite Robot Part II"! The robot songs got people laughing--which is my favorite thing to do. A great experience! Thank you Rob LaLonde for including me!
In other news, I was gifted a fixed-up-with-TLC electric guitar and amp from two insanely lovely people in my life for my birthday! The guitar makes me feel sassy and the amp has two, hand painted robots on it. Thank you so much Matthew T. Bullock and Lukas Hyde for supporting my musical addiction :) I love you, kids.
NOW! I LOVE CATS! FREE RECORDINGS from Seattle on their tour! Do yourself a favor and download them all--it's like dessert for your ears! Also, Mostly Midwest makes me happy. Follow 'em on Twitter and they will make you happy, too.
Dan Daniels and The Southern Gents are wrapping up their 17 day CD RELEASE tour across the country! Their music is available for download on their website or you can contact them for a cd for only $8.00! Get on the ball--it's a great steal and you'll need your dancing shoes!
Until next time, ladies and gents,
Mary Mug

Mary Mugford says 'Get On The Ball and Love Cats!'
I've been hiding out...but...peek-a-boo! Hi.
I have a show scheduled at the YMCA in Marquette, MI on July 10th. I do not have the details yet, but I know I was asked to share the stage with some very cool cats. If you come join, I will play you some tunes on the guitar and plug my ukulele into an amp. Yow!
Hiawatha music festival is around the corner. I will be running a music workshop with Cousin Curtiss and Troy Graham. I believe we will be singing you songs underneath a comphy tent on Saturday, early afternoon. I also volunteered as a monitor--so if I do not see you at the workshop, I will wave to you as we both explore.
In other music news:
Dan Daniels and the Southern Gents are releasing their rockin' cd for your hands and ears and dancing enjoyment this Friday, JUNE 18th, at The Peter White Public Library @ 7:ooPM. It's free (the show, not the cd.)! These gents rocked their way into heads and the Marquette Mining Journal. Check it!
AND
I Love Cats! have been sneaking their way into outlets found around Marquette! When will they play next? Check out their exclusive interview with Mostly Midwest!
Until next time,
Mary ThUGford

Your Favorite Robot Part II
Good day to you!
Mary Mugford has no new shows scheduled for the future...but i certainly will update you if and when I do!
In the mean time...
I wrote "Your Favorite Robot, Part II" a few weeks ago and have not had an opportunity to record it. However, I thought I would leave you with Part I and Part II lyrics for your reading pleasure.
"Your Favorite Robot"
I want to be your favorite robot.
I want to give it a good 'ol fashioned roboshot.
Take my robohand: we can start our own roboband.
I think this plan is grand
and you're neat.
I want to be your favorite robogal.
You surely have been my favorite, swell robopal.
But, my data is gettin' screwy.
I need some fine robotuning: are you having trouble computing.........?
Oh, you're neat.
I'm feeling robosensitive:
I like you more than a robofriend.
Let's take over when the human race ends....
You're so neat.
"Your Favorite Robot, Part II"
My diodes are blinking.
My roboheart is still tick-tick-ticking.
When my robogears need fixing,
you shine mine and I shine yours.
Gee, golly, whiz.
I'm your favorite robolady
and you're my favorite robogent.
I'm glad you were roboreceptive and
all this time we've spent
makin' robolove
sure is tops, Sure is tops.
Bot, you sure are robokeen.
Ya got the most reflective metal I've ever seen.
I feel like I'm in a computerized dream:
With you, I keep winning 1-ups. Aw, shucks.
I'm your favorite robolady
and you're my favorite robogent.
I'm glad you were roboreceptive
and all this time we've spent
makin' robolove sure is tops,
sure is tops.
Gee, golly whiz.
Aw shucks.
Your robolove
sure is tops.
Until next time!

My robosensitive water color robot, below. a gift for a nifty robofriendgent.

The Results of The Big Red House Show w/ The Tallest Buildings and Touch/No Touch!
Hi!
The Big Red House show went well! It was real good to be a part of that night w/ Touch/no touch and The Tallest Buildings. Touch/No Touch was very entertaining and hot (they perform in pantyhose.) So hot that I got to see them once again Friday night in Houghton along with Dan Daniels and the Southern Gents, Eve's Attic & more!
I busted out my ukulele and tested out a few songs for everyone--holy cats! Thank you for being so responsive. Laughing with you guys made the night totally worth it and your forgiveness for my fumbling was appreciated.
My new song "Your Favorite Robot" seemed to have gone over real well and I am incredibly excited about that because I have a lot of fun playing it. Matt Bullock (from I Love Cats! and Dan Daniels and The Southern Gents) was kind and patient enough to record "Your Favorite Robot" and "Chicago"...which you all will be able to hear online within the very near future. Stay tuned!
Next show: April 8th @ NMU in The Great Lakes Room!
i heart your faces!

Live with me!
It has been a while since I have last updated! I hope you've all been working through the winter. The weather this past weekend was amazing-and a very good chunk of it was spent walking around the city I love (Marquette!) and enjoying that sunshine on my cheeks, the glisten of lower harbor, the slush of the streets and wear of the buildings. The snow we have been getting the past couple days is also exciting: It keeps melting on my nose and making me sneeze. Does that happen to anyone else? Now that the snow is falling again, my sinuses are getting the best of me...and I had a mishap with my neti pot and it took a dive into my sink, breaking off the spout. I'm having neti pot withdrawals.
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to play two shows: One in Meg's basement and one in Kingsford, MI. I shared the night with Kerry Yost, Troy Graham and Zada Doyle, The Paper Hearts (Troy and Sam), Zach Lancaster, Luke, Gratiot Lake Road AND I Love Cats! Friday night could not have gone better for me. I felt incredibly comfortable. The atmosphere was very intimate--and speaking to everyone in between songs put a big smile on my face and more energy into my soul for the sharing of the next song. I enjoy making people laugh so much--Thank you for looking past my inner (and outer) dorkiness and sharing laughs with me, everyone! And thank you so much for being so attentive and enjoying yourselves. It's a different experience when I can see the audiences facial expressions and eyeballs! It makes sharing with you incredibly enjoyable. I find myself putting new energy into old songs that are empty of the truths they once held. There's a transition happening: I used to connect with the songs by feeling what they meant to me at one time. Since we are changing every day, it's become difficult to find truth in them for myself. Seeing your reaction every time I play a show gives me new and fresh reasons to keep playing! It's a trip to hear what you take out of the experience and songs. Your interpretation is more important than what I ever meant to project. Thank you, everyone!
I would love to play more music at that basement, anytime. I can easily say that was my best show so far. I hope I keep meeting and re-meeting you in the near future :)
Saturday night in Kingsford was also a learning experience. I very much enjoyed listening to all of the bands and musicians share. My set did not go as planned and I found my patience being tested. I could barely hear myself through the monitor and getting the attention of the audience was a difficult task. My set was shortened because of this, and I was looking forward to listening to the other performances. I have a mind set that I can always do better--and so for the next performance (I believe in March!), hold on to your trousers. I'm learning!
On a sidenote: I was gifted a (working!) ukulele by my friend Robert L. I feel very lucky to be surrounded by such great people, here, who not only look out for one another but share and care for one another. Sometimes I feel undeserving of all of the kindness that's passed around!
I am looking forward to writing some material, using the ukulele. It's difficult to feel the weight of every day stressors when I am surrounded by such supportive people. Thank you, from the bottom of my mugs heart.
In other news, the recording session that I stocked hope in fell through. However, new opportunities have opened up for me that I am feeling real good about! A couple people have contacted me, giving me amazing options. Thank you so much, everyone. I apologize for my delay in "jumping" on the opportunity (which I really should be doing)! I am trying to come up with a couple songs/new material before I record! I will be contacting you soon. Thank you for your patience with me--i'm so green :)
Until next time, smile away!

To keep the music flowin' and goin', we need your help!
Sunny Wednesday to you.
I hope you are all finding yourselves in good spirits, enjoying your surroundings--enjoying the simple things in life!
I am looking to continue the tradition of "The Hoot" and keep it alive and running! With busy schedules, The Hoot will no longer be held at it's original location. But to keep it alive, I really need YOU and your help!
I, unfortunately and regretfully, lack a place to hold the gathering--I do not have a large enough living space for company or instruments. If anyone is interested and willing to hold The Hoot at their humble abode or know of a place we can all gather at, it would be incredibly helpful and appreciated in more ways than you know!
It is really important for me to continue The Hoot. It is really important for us all to remember that support from one another with our creations is a necessity for growing. We live in a very small community--and each and every one of us are working hard to survive in general, but also as creative individuals. It takes a collective, supportive effort for this to grow into something great. I, personally, need to surround myself with others in order to grow and learn from what you are doing. As a "musician" (i don't quite feel comfortable calling myself that), I need to surround myself with other musicians. It is incredibly inspiring and helpful. Also, I met so many great people through these events...which opens so many more doors to anything and everything! It's something really great...can we keep it going?
What I need from you are your ideas! It's simply a relaxed get together where we laugh, talk, hang out, play music (or don't!).
Looking forward to your ideas and support and to see who is interested in continuing The Hoot!
love love love,
Mary Mugford

Music MySpace page is happenin': http://www.myspace.com/marymugford
What have you all been thinking of the sunshine lately (for those of you who live in Marquette)? Is it inspiring you in different ways? I know I've been finding all good things in it. It's also causing me to see new and different inspiration when it hides away and leaves the gray tones and snow behind. Cool, dudes.
I sucked it up and created a myspace music page. I was lucky enough to borrow Kerry Yost's laptop (Thanks again, K.Yost!) and create some (sham) recordings to upload to it this time. I wanted to be able to have something that people could refer to if curiousity got the best of them. It's nice to finally have something up there. The recordings are not of the best sound, but they do the trick and I am pretty happy with how they turned out. I could sit all day and dissect what I need/needed to improve, and re record all night....but instead I decided to go with my first takes and find comfort or acceptance in the flaws of my voice and key and my fingers fummbling and hitting a wrong string. Ah yes, and the infamous ukulele is quite sharp--but I trudged on through. I'm practicing acceptance--that feels great! Learning Learning Learning.
